Luis Figo wins 'Footballranking
Fan Award 2001'
This week Real Madrid’s Luis Figo
received the 'Footballranking Fan Award 2001' after being voted the most
favorite player on www.footballranking.com.
The world's largest independent football fan ranking system received over
250.000 votes from soccer fans from over 220 countries.
Figo, one of the most expensive players in the history of the game has played
for European giants Barcelona and now plies he's trade at Real Madrid with World
player of the year Zidane.
Figo's rapid rise to immortality was highlighted at the Euro 2000 tournament
where excellent displays brought Portugal to the brink of the final.
The awards have been designed to enable each fan to honour his/her favourite
player, keeper and coach for their achievements. As a stimulus to vote, each
registered fan has the chance to meet and personally present the Fan Award to
their idol, commented Footballranking CEO Bart Sikkens.
Under the eye of the camera of Real Madrid Television, Figo said, "I feel
honoured to be appreciated by so many fans". By signing several balls, Figo
showed his support to The 'World Needs Balls', a global children's project of
Footballranking.
