De Boer Claims Figo Got Booked
Deliberately
Barcelona's
Frank De Boer has
claimed Real Madrid's
Luis Figo got himself
booked deliberately to avoid playing at the Nou Camp in the first leg of their
semi-final.
Figo's yellow card in the second half of Real's quarter final with Bayern Munich
was his third of the competition meaning he will miss the massive clash with his
former team on April 23.
De Boer said: "I think he did it on purpose. It was a stupid thing to do,
arguing with the referee. Perhaps he wanted a booking."
Figo Reveals
Frustration At Champions League Ban
Real
Madrid midfielder Luis Figo
has revealed his annoyance at the booking that will see him miss his side's
Champions League semi-final first leg clash with former club Barcelona.
The Portuguese international will be spared the hostile atmosphere which greeted
him on his last appearance at the Nou Camp after he collected his third caution
of the tournament in Real's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich.
However, the 29-year-old says that he would have relished the clash and believes
that the yellow card he received last night was unwarranted.
"All I was doing was telling the referee that (Stefan) Effenberg had hit
one of the ball-boys, but he didn't understand me and booked me instead,"
he said.
"I don't think it was deserved, but I was really up for the game and forgot
I was threatened with suspension. It's a shame because I wanted to play at the
Nou Camp."
