Proud Egyptians await
arrival of Zidane, Figo and co.
CAIRO, Aug 2 (AFP) - Africa's 'club of the century' Al-Ahly
take on the might of Real Madrid on Saturday with the Egyptian club looking to
avenge the Spaniards' 4-1 win 40 years ago.
The Egyptian press have dubbed the game, which is officially a friendly, the
"match of the century", but for the world's most expensive player
Zinedine Zidane and fellow record signing, Portuguese international Luis Figo,
it should be no more than a gentle workout before their season begins.
Formed in 1907, Al-Ahly were Egypt's first ever football club and have become a
national institution.
They will field their two new signings, defender Samir Kamouna and midfielder
Hady Khachaba, in the match, which is expected to attract 66,000 spectators to
Cairo's international stadium.
The Egyptian club is paying a fee of 1.5 million dollars for the honour of
facing the Spanish champions, which should help towards the world record
65-million-dollar fee paid to bring 29-year-old French international Zidane to
Spain from Juventus last month.
